Mashonaland East Pig Artificial Insemination Station Launched

The Deputy Minister of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Resettlement, Vangelis Haritatos, has the launch of a pig Artificial Insemination Station, funded by the European Union under the Zimbabwe Agriculture Growth Programme, ZAGP, at Braford Farm in Chegutu.

The launch follows importation of pig breeding stock in 2020 and successful completion of the AI station in 2021, was officiated by the Hon. Deputy Minister of Agriculture Vangelis Peter Haritatos, the EU Ambassador to Zimbabwe, H.E. Timo Olkkonen and the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Mashonaland West, Hon. Mary Mliswa.

Speaking at the launch, Minister Haritatos said that “Agriculture, Food and Nutrition Security remain the top priority for the Government of Zimbabwe and as an important step towards attainment of Vision 2030.”

The Minister said that the, “Launch of the Pig Artificial Insemination station, is a key step yowards the National Genetic Improvement (Artificial Insemination) Programme which constitutes one among six key strategic interventions of the Livestock Growth and Development PLan of the Agriculture Sood Systems Transformation Strategy.”

Minister Haritatos extended his gratitude to the Value Project Partners and the Government line ministries for achieving a great milestone of successfully setting up a state of the art station.
